Songs to the Key of Life is the name of an album by Stevie Wonder. It also describes my taste in music. Currently I have over 75 hours of music on my Spotify playlist from artist like Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Blackstreet, Luke Bryan and many many others.
Most of the songs in my music collection speak to my soul in some way. Take for example the song Wildflower by Skylark. It fits me almost to a tee. The lyrics describe what it is like to be a child sex abuse survivor at least they do to me. So whenever I meet someone new and they ask me what my favorite song is I tell them Wildflower by Skylark. And most times they ask me why and I will either play it for them or send them a link so they can listen themselves. And then I tell them my story in a nutshell. I say nutshell because there is a lot of junk that comes with being a survivor of any type of abuse but when it comes to child sexual abuse the damage is often permanent and can at times be unbearable to deal with. The good news is with more awareness about this topic and the more discussion about it opens new pathways to understanding and healing for survivors who seek to know themselves better so that the victim can eventually be victorious.
